Hi all,

I am just curious if anyone has experienced any early signs of rust anyone on the Terrain body. I just noticed some rust corrosion on the driver's door panel which I plan on bringing to the dealership in the hopes of getting it resolved. This should not happen on a a new car such as this. I will have to do a more exhaustive search this weekend to see if there are other signs.

I am taking the vehicle in tomorrow for a couple of items and will identify this issue with the dealer. I hope to get a resolution. I should take a picture of the spot I am referring too. :)

Hopefully, I can post a link to a photo given my limited post count at this point.

Cheers,
Paul

It's going to be fixed entirely under warranty. The car is booked in for this upcoming Tuesday and I will be provided with a rental for the duration while the vehicle is at the GM body shop.

Awesome! How did everything go, would like to see pic's. Before and after pic's would be even better if you have the before pic's.

Was it hard to get the dealer to take care of the issue?
I didn't take any before pictures and I also didn't take any after pics. I could take some, but would make no sense right now since it is winder and most of the time the car is pretty dirty.

Everything went smoothly....rental was paid for by dealer, and no issues with the dealer taking care of the issue. I didn't even have to bat an eye for them to fix it either.

congrats on getting it fixed and them being really cooperative. but it still doesnt answer why it started rusting in the first place. im sure more than enough terrain owners are curious and would like to find out themselves.

Two areas on a Terrain that rust may occur. The seams along the lower panels of the front and rear door -- road salt and sand collect here. Open the doors when washing! The other is under the chrome plate on the rear door of the Terrain.

I purchased in August of 2010 a 2010 new Terrain. All four doors began to rust at the bottom seam within a year.I was told by GM a process was missed to seal the metal on the doors. The dealer cleaned the doors up and painted them. Within 6 mo. the doors began to rust again and now the back hatch door is rusting behind the mid door trim. The dealer told me they are not sure what to do at this point and GM told them they won't do anything it is up to the dealer. The dealer told me to sell the vehicle after they repaint it or they would take a trade at below Blue Book.
I have been a GM buyer for 40 yrs and have to say I will not be purchasing anymore GM products.
I still drive the vehicle but am trying to find a ethical way to get rid of it.

wow.....I have a feeling that the Terrain will exhibit the same signs of rust come April/May. I have to say for GM to indicate that a process was missed is big and to further indicate that they will do nothing and it is up to the dealer is even ludicrous.

I have had this issue fixed twice by my dealer. I hope the third time will include new doors with the proper fix implemented.

Hello Tricia @ GMC Customer Service, I'm also experiencing this rust issue on all 4 doors of my 2011 Terrain. I just posted about it here:

http://www.terrainforum.com/forum/g...1-bubbling-paint-rust-bottom-all-4-doors.html

I did speak with someone today @ GMC Customer Service Centre who started a file, but did make it very clear that she couldn't promise that she/GMC would be able to help me with this issue. Is there anything you can do?

Thanks
