The GMC Terrain is now available as a Denali for 2013.

Denali is the exclusive sub-brand within the GMC vehicle line that takes their professional grade trucks and SUV's to a new level of luxury added to augment the sturdy engineering, safety, performance and value of the vehicle for the consumer.

For 2013, GMC has expanded that line to eight as they now include the GMC Terrain Denali small SUV in that exclusive group of luxury vehicle models that offer the consumer the absolute best of GMC in their respective vehicle segments.

"Denali is the ultimate expression of Professional Grade," said Tony Disalle, U.S. Vice President of GMC Marketing.

"These are the most-capable, most-advanced and most-luxurious vehicles GMC offers," DiSalle added noting that the Denali name is derived from the native name for Mount Mckinley (North America's highest peak) which is translated to mean the high one.

We had an opportunity to do a first drive of a pre-production 2013 GMC Terrain Denali for part of a day earlier this year and came away impressed that GMC had effectively carried the Denali brand and cachet over to the GMC Terrain.

This past week, we have had a regular production 2013 GMC Terrain Denali AWD in Crystal Red Tint Coat with Jet Black leather interior to drive around Central Texas. Equipped with the optional new 3.6-liter V-6 power plant mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and riding on the optional 19-inch chrome wheels and tires, we stand by our original evaluation that this is indeed a vehicle worthy of the Denali brand and name.

A Denali is distinctive not just by its name boldly displayed on the outside of each front door, but also by certain core design elements that include chrome wheels, chrome elements in the front grille and body-color moldings.

Inside, a Denali uses distinctive premium materials in seating and surfaces that include leather and wood accents plus a Denali always has the very best of the technology and audio systems available from GMC.

The GMC Terrain Denali for 2013 comes with two power trains. The standard is the 2.4L four-cylinder and, with front-wheel drive (FWD), has an MSRP of $35,350.

The 2.4L delivers 183 horsepower with 172 lb.-ft. of torque and has fuel mileage ratings of 22/32 mpg city/highway in the FWD version. All-wheel drive is available with fuel mileage of 20/29 mpg city/highway . The MSRP for the AWD is $2,250 more.

The more powerful new 3.6L V-6 uses direct injection and continuously variable valve timing to produce a class-leading 301 horsepower with 272 ft.-lb. of torque which gives this Denali the right level of power and response that befits the Denali name. The V-6 option upgrade (($1,750) also includes an upgrade from 18-inch to 19-inch chrome-clad wheels.

Our 2013 GMC Terrain Denali test vehicle had a base price of $38,065 for the AWD and included the following options: Cargo Package - $235, 3.6L V-6 and 19-inch wheels - $1,750, Color Touch Navigation with Intelilink - $795 and the Crystal Red Tintcoat color - $325.

A Trailering Package was also included ($350) that enabled tow capacity of 3,500 pounds for this 2013 GMC Terrain Denali with the V-6 power train.

With delivery, this 2013 GMC Terrain Denali priced at $40,555.

The Terrain Denali design cues begin with the signature cues from the GMC premium Denali sub-brand that include the chrome grille, body-color fascias and rocker moldings, satin-chrome accents, specific headlamp and taillamp designs, and dual chrome-finish exhaust outlets (single outlet with the 2.4L). The unique 18-inch (with the 2.4L) or 19-inch (with the 3.6L) wheels complete the look.

Luxury details inside for the Terrain Denali begin with the soft-touch Jet Black leather, which lines the seats and door inserts. Contrast stitching and red accent lighting contribute to the distinctive appearance.

Other Denali-exclusive interior details include:

• Soft-touch instrument panel with French stitching
• Leather-wrapped steering wheel with smoked mahogany wood accents
• Embossed Denali logos on front seatbacks
• Smoked mahogany wood trim accents
• Denali illuminated front sill plates
• Eight-way power driver and passenger seat
• Standard sunroof

New dual-flow dampers are exclusive to the Terrain Denali’s suspension system. This technology provides a smoother ride and improved handling by controlling suspension dampening across a broader range of driving conditions.

Forward collision alert and lane departure warning are also standard on Terrain Denali. They use the industry’s first single-camera crash-avoidance system to visually and audibly warn drivers when a collision is imminent or the vehicle crosses a lane marker.

Also standard are Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which help avoid collisions by using radar to watch spots the driver may not be able to see – and provide visible and audible warnings.

Convenience features include a programmable power lift gate and segment-exclusive MultiFlex sliding 60/40 rear seat that can be moved fore or aft nearly eight inches for easy access to or full utilization of the cargo area .

Available technologies include, new for 2013, Color Touch Navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system.

GMC IntelliLink combines with OnStar to bring segment-exclusive infotainment technology to Terrain Denali. IntelliLink features:

• Enhanced hands-free voice control system powered by Nuance ®
• PANDORA Internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio
• Gracenote ® that identifies the music on the driver’s USB device, MP3 player or smart phone.
• Upgraded USB connectivity
• SiriusXM Satellite Radio

Six months of OnStar Directions and Connections service is standard on Terrain. OnStar’s RemoteLink Mobile App allows smartphone users to control vehicle functions, access vehicle information and send directions directly to the vehicle.

Terrain also features new OnStar button icons. Drivers will notice an updated look for the Hands-Free Calling button, blue OnStar button and red Emergency button.

Terrain Denali is offered exclusively in Quicksilver Metallic, Crystal Red Tintcoat, Carbon Black Metallic, Summit White and Iridium Metallic. The Terrain Denali interior is offered exclusively in Jet Black.
