GMC’s upmarket Denali line has been a success for the truck brand, bringing increased sales and fatter profit margins since its introduction on the Yukon SUV in 1999.
Now, GMC will look to expand the nameplate with a Denali version of the Terrain crossover, GM senior vice president of product development Mary Barra said today at Inforum in Detroit.
While Barra stated that details on the Terrain Denali won’t be released until later this week, the consistent path charted by past Denali vehicles gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the upcoming luxed-up crossover. A chrome honeycomb grille, monochromatic exterior appointments, unique chrome wheels and mildly revised fascias front and rear should distinguish the Terrain Denali outside, while the interior is likely to benefit from higher-quality leather and more standard features.
The Terrain Denali will be the first of a significant number of new General Motors products to arrive this year, GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan told The Detroit Free Press. The company plans to release more new or updated vehicles at the upcoming New York International Auto Show than any other automaker.
