LIFT GATE SIDE APPLIQUE REMOVAL

Hi forum, my 2015 terrains both lift gate side appliques are both looking nasty. The finish is gone all around the edges. I tried to remove them by removing the three nuts behind them when u open the hatch but they won't come off. Am I missing something? I don't want to cause another problem. Does anyone know how to remove these two appliques? Thanks in advance.
