Just a little information for those posting about the sensor reading a passenger when there isn't one.
My Terrain (2015) will activate the passenger airbag sensor when my phone is charging and placed in the passenger seat. This confirms that it is susceptible to interference from electronic devices. Also would confirm other issues I have read here such as someone placing a baking sheet in the passenger seat and the airbag activating. (Electromagnetic field disruption, [ I'm an electronics tech]).
Also for mine, it does not activate if the phone is not charging. I put up a Facebook post to see if it's the same for other manufacturers, and will post results after a few days of responses.
