TPMS : Tire pressure monitor system... Winter wheels w/o sensors

I realized that a lot of new vehicles have a TMPS on all 4 wheels, and i was informed by the dealer that , you will need these sensors, every time you change tires, with a set of new rims. So i asked them how much it will all cost for the TMPs sensors... the dealer told me around 200-300, and since i live in canada i am not willing to spend 200 - 300 for sensors that i will only use 2-3 months.

Anybody have suggestions or idea how to disable them? Ive heard from rumors that after a few hundred kms, that the system will just disable them. Is that true?

A friend of mine have a Pontiac Grand Prix around 2008... 2009... not sure about the exact year... and he can do a thing that the car will not warn each time he starts the car...

I recently came upon that problem too, my buddy purchased a 2010 Nissan Rouge, and he asked me the same question. The car doesnt need the TPMS sesnors, as this has been confirmed by my mechanic that they are not needed for any car, they are just there for your own safety needs.

they will still show up on your dash, but just ignore it.

hope that helps
My mechanic always told me i needed them for the car for safety reasons =/ . So i always just went along with it. It good to know that now i wont need them anymore and it'll save me a few hundred buks each time
Your mechanic is just trying to pump some extra cash out of you.

You don't need the sensors, just make sure you check your tire pressures and fill them if need be.

So from now on just tell him not to install them or bother with the TPMS

As All-Terrain said..The car will run just fine without sensors..it's just a means to keep track of air pressure in the tires..check them routinely with an old fashioned tire gauge and you'll be fine
The last time I bought TPMS replacements, it cost me a fraction of the $200-300 the dealer quoted you. You can find replacement sensors on line for much less and have them installed when you purchase tires. I bought four sensors for my 2008 Corvette, really a necessity since there is no spare tire on Corvettes since 1997. I believe I paid about $85 in 2015.

Not true. You do NOT have to purchase and install new sensors each time you purchase tires. You only have to purchase new sensors when the battery fails. That could be several years.
